Product Description

A good quality black silk embroidery on a cream silk ground of an idyllic pastoral scene. Minutely detailed, the picture depicts a rural home with a cart passing by. The composition, in particular the depiction of the trees is reminiscent of the drawings and watercolors of Paul Sandby (British 1731-1809) and is from the same school although probably not the same hand as 090-117. Inscribed on the back in ink “Sutton”.  Appears to retain its original frame.

English c.1790-1800
