Contemporary Art by MARC LAMBRECHTS
Belgian born artist Marc Lambrechts studied first as a printmaker at the in Brussels and then completed his studies at the Pratt Institute in New York. He became fascinated by creating a dimensional presence on seemingly flat surfaces, deeply layering plaster, Belgian bornmetal and pigment onto panel. The artist then scrapes and gouges, revealing and concealing colors and materials within the painting.
From a distance the surfaces appear smooth and drawn, as one approaches the works it becomes apparent that each line and color is etched or buried within the piece, imbuing the work with the subtle dimensions. Lambrechts constantly explore new mediums, working with plaster, wood, clay board and canvas often introducing unexpected elements into his work; burnt wood, found objects and natural fibers.
His images are at times monumental and at times intimate; what remains constant is an image that imparts both strength and serenity that in room settings complements the furniture displayed on these pages. His works are in public and private collections throughout Europe and North America.
