Product Description

Chinese export for the Dutch market these soup dishes were probably ordered by Theodorus Van Reverhorst, a member of the VOC Court of Justice in Batavia from 1735 – 1752. The central arms are for Theodorus and the additional named arms are for his eight grandparents. In the pantheon of armorial porcelain produced in China for Europeans, this service documenting these generations appears to be a unique survival, that has been recorded in every major book relating to the China Trade, with addition pieces being displayed at the Metropolitan Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Musee Guimet.
