Product Description

Each in the form of a seated Asian figure, male and female, holding a leaf and berry cast candle nozzle above their heads, the circular bases on adjustable toupee feet.
These candlesticks are almost certainly English retaining the original gilding and patination. The quality throughout of the molding, patination and parcel gilding is very high and the pieces fit well with the Chinoiserie moment in England at the turn of the 19th century that resulted in the extravagance of the Brighton Pavillion.
Although there are similar models of French manufacture, most are fully gilt and much later in date, therefore it is possible that the original molds were developed in England with samples exported to France at a later date.
An exceptional pair of candlesticks.

English c. 1820
