Product Description

This teak example is one of the best we have handled.  In solid teak, in two parts with a base that places it in the 18th or very early 19th century, and displaying metal work that is clearly made in the subcontinent, this is an exciting piece for any collector.  It is clear that all the brasswork was locally commissioned with the handles displaying slight variations, and the corners and strappings of a fairly light gauge.  The cabinet work and dovetails are very good quality pointing to possible Chinese workmanship, and the shallow depth of the piece is identical to pieces made by craftsmen from China working in Eastern India.

Anglo Indian, c. 1780-1810
