A delightful 19th century mail box in the form of a sentry’s guard post in oak with a glass panel and the original felt to the base.
Mail boxes of this type that came in multiple designs were fixtures in entrance halls of every country house where guests and residents would deposit their letters which would be collected by the postman frequently each day.
This one is particularly pleasing.
English, late 19th century
Provenance:
The estate of Eugene and Clare Thaw.
