The oyster veneers in olive wood with line inlay and banding in holly wood, the lower molding in cocus wood, with two short and three long drawers all raised on turned bun feet. The decoration to this chest is in superb condition and the arrangement of inlay provides a particularly striking appearance. The drawers retain traces of the original blue paper lining. Adam Bowett in English Furniture 1660-1714, From Charles II to Queen Anne illustrates a similar chest and comments on the limited use of cocus wood in the second half of the 17th century. The handles and escutcheons, although appropriate, are replacements.
