At 11 feet long with solid two-inch thick walnut top this late 17th century table is a rare survival indeed. With three vase shaped legs and a single stretcher to the base and a further stretcher under the top, the table projects a magnificent outline and is equally useful as a dining table or in a long hall or foyer. In superb condition, exhibiting the patina of more than 300 years.
The vase shaped elements to the legs point to an Italian provenance but the popularity of these designs for very grand places and the spread of these designs due to the Grand Tour, could mean a manufacture in almost any European country including England where it was acquired in the 20th century.
Recent Provenance: Private Collection, Long Island, NY
English, circa 1680
