Rare George III Mahogany Wine Coaster

Silver bottle coasters are widely available, beautiful and come in a huge range of designs by many of the finest English silversmiths.
Wooden coasters are a different matter. At 5-6 inches diameter they were designed for large bottles and decanters, but being wood were frequently damaged.
Probably more prolific in the 18^th century than silver examples that have survived into the 21^st century mahogany examples are now considered rare, particularly in very good condition.
