A very interesting and early oak chest from the Charles 1st period c. 1620. The four panel top with original ring hinges above a three panel base, the panels surrounded by foliate and rosette carved stiles and crossbars. The interior with a till.

An interesting feature of this chest is the imagery carved into the center panel which has the initials C.P. The carving seems to represent a bird (possibly a dove), leaves and what appears to be a turtle. This may be a pictogram representing a turtle dove and the tree of life and may therefore commemorate the marriage of C and P.

An interesting early piece in untouched condition retaining superb color and patina.

English c. 1620
