DESCRIPTION

Bottle coasters in England tend to be silver or ceramic, and although many were originally made in wood they were prone to damage and few have survived.
This example in good dense mahogany is a rare survival and is a particularly finely turned piece.
Dating to 1800 it is unsurprising that given the rarity of treen examples, their prices can match or exceed their silver cousins.
