DESCRIPTION

A rather nice and practical pair of waiters by the respected London maker John Carter and hallmarked 1772.  Each shaped circular waiter chased with a beaded boarder and husk swags and raised on three ball and claw feet.

The hallmarks to the bases are clear as are the initials IQA to each base.  The waiters are engraved to the centers with the contemporary crest.  The crest is for the Quin family of Ireland - a wolf's head erased, argent.  The family motto was "Quo sursum volo videre (I wish to see what is above)" although this does not appear on the engraving.

Overall, rather good condition.

c.f. Fairbairn's Crests, page 395 and plate 14 no. 6.
