DESCRIPTIONWith two short over three long graduated drawers, within moulded frame, with ogee apron descending to bracket feet. The baseboard with the inscription "May 21st 1728 made for Mrs Mary Reynolds by Thomas Reynolds in Bell Lane, Spittle fealds". This chest is illustrated in Christopher Gilbert, Pictortial Dictionary of Marked London Furniture 1700-1840, plate 764 on page 388 where the author comments that a similar chest is in the collection of the Duke of Rutland at Belvoir Castle. he does not mention if it is also inscribed and dated. In addition, theis chest has recently been published by this generation's leading English furniture historian, Dr Adam Bowett in Early Georgian Furniture 1715-1740, on pages 99-101 where he states that this chest "is the earliest firmly dated English chest of drawers with bracket feet as original fitments.
