DESCRIPTION

A fine model that retains its original linen slides to the upper section; below section with three deep drawers with original handles and terminating in fine french feet.  What raises this excellent piece of case furniture above the norm is the choice of veneer.  Fustic is an extremely rare South American tropical hardwood from the Amarillo group of the mulberry family, Chlorophora Tinctoria, that in 18th century cabinetmaking was used most often in small quantities as an inlay or banding.  It is exceptionally rare to find a large piece of case furniture veneered on all show surfaces in Fustic. The quality of this piece would suggest a leading London cabinet maker and the ebony line inlay surrounding the ovals to the cabinet doors would point to a Mayhew and Ince attribution.

English c. 1780
