DESCRIPTIONA really wonderful document cabinet of solid padouk and finished in the round, with paktong fittings including the locks, hinges, catches and handles. The interior with an array of eleven drawers surrounding a central door with a beveled mirror plate, all below a row of small pigeonholes with arched aprons. The construction is distinctly Chinese and although the table cabinet form is relatively common in English and Dutch furniture of the 17th and 18th Century, what really betrays its origins is the wonderfully distinctive carving of cloud forms around the door panels. The stand, in padouk is possibly later.
